Factorising a quadratic expression is an essential skill.

Once you've viewed the video, use the interactive display below to practising using "empty" brackets to factorise a quadratic function. There may at first appear to be a choice of which numbers you use (bearing in mind that 12 = 1x12, 12x1, 2x6, 6x2, 3x4, 4x3 and -3x-4 for example). However, all quadratic functions can only be factorised in one way. Then move to choose from some of these options:
